Why we choose Gotlucky’s track
The competition was incredibly tight, and our team faced a real challenge in narrowing down a single track that rose above the rest. After hours of listening and intense deliberation, we are thrilled to crown Gotlucky as the ultimate winner of this round. Here is exactly what set his track apart:
Creative Bravery
By blending unexpected genres into a classic Tech House framework, this track boldly breaks free from commercial limits. It is a refreshing, courageous departure from the "standard" sound.
A Groove Like No Other
From the very first beat, the rhythm is infectious. It possesses a rare, locked-in energy that doesn't just keep the dancefloor moving - it commands it.
Technical Excellence
Beyond the creativity, the production quality is top-tier. The mix is crisp, the low-end is perfectly sculpted, and every element sits exactly where it should, showcasing a high level of technical mastery.
Congratulations to Gotlucky for delivering a track that blew us away! Listen to the winning track below, and check out a Q&A with him to dive into their creative process, inspirations, and what it takes to craft an award-winning track.
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself and your journey into music production. When did things start getting serious for you?
A: Hi! I'm Gotlucky. My musical journey started a long time ago; I’ve been involved in music since I was four years old. I first played the violin in music school and then in college, though I never pursued higher education - haha! I started making electronic music seriously at the beginning of my Gotlucky project in 2018. Since then, I've explored various genres, ranging from Bass House and Tech House to more melodic styles like Melodic House and Afro House.
Q: What originally pulled you into producing electronic music, and what kept you going when things got difficult?
A: I remember my brother listening to Tiësto in Concert. When Tiësto played his reworking of "Adagio for Strings," I was so impressed that I wanted to immerse myself in the world of electronic music and learn how to create it. Of course, there were many disappointments along the way, but music gave me the impulse to keep moving, developing, and exploring new things. I've always wanted to dedicate myself to music in any form.
Q: How would you describe your sound right now? What artists, scenes, or
influences shaped it?
A: Right now, I'm more focused on Afro House, Melodic House, and even Organic House. However, because I'm also a ghost producer, I naturally work within and develop all kinds of genres - whether they are trending or niche. I try to keep an eye on all the major festivals because you never know what will inspire you; perhaps a specific sound or a technical "move" from Drum and Bass will catch your attention and work perfectly in a completely different genre. I don't limit myself.
Q: Walk us through the making of your winning track. What was the original idea and how did the track evolve while you were producing it?
A: When I saw that you were launching the contest, I was initially hesitant about whether or not to participate. However, my fiancée told me that I should try - that this is one of those chances you simply cannot miss. And she was right! Everything turned out in the best possible way. Regarding the track, the first round was Tech House. I decided to combine modern Tech/Bass House with a swinging rhythm for the bass and drums. Then, I found an easy, memorable vocal phrase. The result isn't the typical trending 1/8 Tech House, but something quite unique.
Q: What part of producing still excites you the most when you open your DAW?
A: When I open Ableton, I start by looking for samples that inspire me. I don't use a specific template; I just start creating. Initially, there is no plan - I’m simply following my thoughts and my inspiration. I really love that sense of freedom.
Q: What are you currently working on? Any upcoming releases or goals for the next year?
A: As I mentioned, I am currently focusing on Afro House and Melodic House. In March, I had a release on Colorize (Enhanced), and there are many more releases on the way. I am also a member of the NUVORA project alongside my friends from Argentina - Temazkal and Descoqueo. The project is growing rapidly, both in terms of live performances and new music releases.
Q: For producers thinking about entering Make It next year: what would you tell them after going through the process yourself?
A: To my colleagues, I would say: take every chance and participate. Get rid of your doubts and prejudices. You'll never know if you can win if you don't try. Don't overthink what might happen - just stay in the moment and trust yourself. Believe in yourself.
Q: Quick one: what’s your current DAW and one plugin you couldn’t live without?
A: My DAW of choice is Ableton. For plugins, I naturally use Serum, but I also love using Absynth. It’s such a great instrument!
